Jeremy Cohen: ViolinJazz & Friends Celebrate Joe Venuti: 100 Years is a celebration of jazz violin legend Joe Venuti, marking the date of his 100th birthday. Available from Video Artists International, this film features works by Joe Venuti and Cohen's ViolinJazz arrangements as well as rare archival photographs and film footage. Performers include Jeremy Cohen and his ViolinJazz Quartet (Larry Dunlap on piano, Dix Bruce on guitar and Jim Kerwin on bass) and guest artists such as: noted jazz violinist, Paul Anastasio, Venuti alumnus, bassist Dean Riley, guitarist Paul Mehling, and reed player Jim Rothermel. More information about this film is available at www.elfenworks.com and at the artist's website at www.violinjazz.com.
As the true pioneer of jazz violin, Joe Venuti played with such greats as Eddie Lang, Red Nichols, Jimmy Dorsey and Frank Signorelli of the original Dixieland Jazz Band in the 1920s. Originally trained in the classical style at an early age, Venuti developed his own purist jazz violin style that continues to inspire jazz violinists around the world.
About the Festival
The Globians Potsdam World and Culture Documentary Film Festival is a documentary festival focusing on world and culture documentary films, the protection of local cultures and threats to these cultures. Globians is a truly independent festival, accepting neither sponsorship from business nor public subsidies. The festival is housed in the old city town hall "Altes Rathaus" of Potsdam, near Berlin, in Germany. This historic structure, built in 1746, features a golden Atlas with his Globe on top of the roof. If you are considering attending this festival, we are sure you will enjoy your time in Potsdam. This is a fascinating, culture-packed city just outside of Berlin. Attractions include the Sans Souci Palace and gardens, art galleries, the Neues Palace, an Orangerie, and Scloss Cecilienhof. Potsdam is also home to the early German film studios, once dormant, but now active again. And since Potsdam is located inside the former East Germany, the transitions between East and West can be astonishing. The town is a piece of living history which we're sure you will enjoy.About Jeremy Cohen
