About the film Violins and Cigars, Aaron Rosand at 80 is a celebration of legendary violinist Aaron Rosand, with the mighty redwoods serving as a symbolic backdrop of his powerful and enduring career. "You know the secret of my tone? Cigars. All great violinists smoke cigars," Aaron Rosand wryly says at the start of this heart-warming tribute video to the extraordinary violinist, capturing the spirit and musical magic that has surrounded him since he first picked up a violin 77 years ago. Rosand has been playing violin for 77 years - that's about nine million minutes - and he doesn't use a shoulder rest. But if he feels cigars are the secret, we must allow him his opinion. In this brief (5 minute) documentary short, filmmaker Lauren Speeth leaves the audience to draw its own conclusions. The short was produced and directed by Lauren Speeth with cinematography by Lauren Speeth, Tim Schaller, and Andrew Zappin, and edited by Tim Schaller.
