About the Black Earth Film Festival The Black Earth Film Festival, November 8-12, 2006, features films of all genres created by independent filmmakers. Now entering its third year with an expanded schedule, the festival is held in Galesburg, Illinois, a scenic community of 33,000 people with a strong tradition of supporting the arts. Boyhood home of Pulitzer-prize winning poet and biographer Carl Sandburg, site of one of the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates and steeped in the rich history of the nineteenth century, Galesburg is located between Davenport, Iowa, and Peoria, Illinois. Films for this annual event will be shown in Galesburg’s historic Orpheum Theatre. About the film Tammy Hall: Reflections - In this film of jazz favorites and original compositions, the musical artistry of jazz pianist Tammy Hall (captured live in concert at the famed Yoshi's Jazz House) is combined with cinematography by the elfenworks team and visuals by master editor/animator Tim Schaller. The blending of Hall's performance with dream-like imagery invite you to escape into a world of visual metaphor inspired and driven by the emotional qualities evoked by the themes of the music. "Tammy Hall: Reflections," directed by Lauren Speeth, received 2006 Summit and Telly Awards, and was selected by KCSM 91.1 as a thank-you gift for its 2006 member pledge drive. About Galesburg, Illinois Galesburg is a beautiful and historic midwestern town situated in the West Central Illinois prairieland. The festival location is the historic Orpheum Theatre. This "jewel of Galesburg" was built in 1916 (as a vaudiville house) for William Olson by Architechts C.W. & George L. Rapp, for an astonishing $135,000. Their eclectic - yet elegant - structure includes classical, baroque and art nouveau touches. The theatre was forced to close in 1982, but has since been lovingly restored to its former glory.
