We congratulate Aaron Rosand on his two latest releases from VAI, Aaron Rosand in Norway (2-CD set) and
Aaron Rosand in Recital (DVD) .Recorded during Rosand's tours of Norway in the 1970s and 80s with orchestral and piano accompaniment, the 2-CD set features Lalo's Symphonie espagnole,
Saint-Saëns' Havanaise and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso as well as works by Egge, Sinding, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Sarasate and Bull in performances
"so good that if you only had them and no other recordings of the works, you wouldn't be missing much (American Record Guide)".
The Recital film, delivered with "technical aplomb and, above all, exquisitely tasteful, old-world style (Baltimore Sun)" features works by Leclair, Franck, Bach, Sarasate, Brahms, and transcriptions by Rachmaninoff, Kreisler, Heifetz and Milstein in a tribute to the violin traditions of the 19th century.
A prolific recording and performing artist, Aaron Rosand enjoys an enduring career that has spanned seven decades. In 2002, he celebrated his 75th birthday with a sold-out performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto at Verizon Hall in Philadelphia. Now 78, he is enjoying a remarkable "Indian Summer," continuing to perform, record, and teach. Rosand carries on two traditions of playing, having studied both with Leon Sametini (a student of Ysaye) and Efrem Zimbalist (a student of Auer). He is Chair of Violin Studies at Curtis, where he seeks to impart the twin strains embodied in his own playing to a new generation.

We congratulate Jeremy Cohen on his latest DVD release from VAI, Jeremy Cohen ViolinJazz & Friends Celebrate Joe Venuti 100 Years. This film is a dialogue between past and present -- a multimedia live concert combining historical film footage and slides with live music featuring violin virtuoso, composer, and arranger Jeremy Cohen in a celebration of Joe Venuti's unique talent and contribution to American jazz violin.
In a world where the deepest musical roots are often taken for granted, Jeremy Cohen carries on the legacy of jazz violin with a deep knowledge of, and respect for the past. His tribute to Joe Venuti, captured here on film, is neither sentimental nor contrived. Rather, he combines the past with the present in a way that draws the audience into the story.
Jeremy Cohen is currently Resident Artist and String Coordinator at the Henry Mancini Institute at UCLA and Guest Artist in Residence at Mills College. He is also on the faculty of the Jazz School in Berkeley, California, and is a former faculty member of the Stanford Jazz Workshop. His eclectic style reflects his training with Itzhak Perlman and his admiration for violinists ranging from Fritz Kreisler to Joe Venuti.
He performs as soloist with symphony orchestras around the country, and concertizes regularly with his ViolinJazz Quartet and the award-winning Quartet San Francisco. In addition to his own concerts and recordings, Cohen has worked extensively on motion picture and TV soundtracks. He has also performed, toured, and/or recorded with a wide variety of artists.
